Metal cutouts -- fabricated profiles of the Corps of Volunteers for Northwestern Discovery who camped in the small valley near Waitsburg, Washington on May 2, 1806. Lewis and Clark and their party used this ancient overland route at the recommendation of local First Nation tribes, saving them many miles of travel. Amazingly, parts of of the ancient trail can still be seen at an inconspicuous nearby highway pullout called, though most has sadly been lost to farmlands and other development.
